Capt. Mike Whitehead will be the official voice of the Newport Beach, Calif., Christmas Boat Parade for each of the five nights of the event, which runs from Dec. 13-17.
The Christmas Boat Parade, which has been hailed as "one of the Top 10 holiday happenings in the nation" by the New York Times, attracts more than a million viewers who come to watch the decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes sail along the harbor.
This year's theme is "Holiday Magic Through the Eyes of a Child," and Whitehead will be narrating the parade from the new home of the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum at the Balboa Fun Zone.
"I am honored to be the official voice of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade again this year. I have this wonderful opportunity to enhance the viewing experience for those watching from shore," Whitehead said in a statement.
Boaters know Whitehead as the host of the Boathouse TV show that began airing in 1995, and from his boating articles in newspapers and magazines. Now, his weekly Boathouse Radio Show is heard in Southern California every Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. The show's home station is KCBQ 1170 AM, which also has a live Internet feed for those outside the broadcast coverage.
