Boat dealers vulnerable to drop in consumer confidence

September 2007 News

Boat, motorcycle and other vehicle dealers ranked 33rd on the list of the 40 most vulnerable industries to a drop in consumer confidence.
Specialized freight trucks (except used goods), motor vehicle metal stamping and automobile and light-duty motor vehicle manufacturing ranked numbers one through three, respectively, on the list.
The 40 industries listed as most vulnerable made the list based on several assumptions, including:
1) Since about 70 percent of U.S. GDP can be attributed to consumer spending, a severe erosion of consumer confidence will obviously foment a drag on the entire economy.
2) This list singles out the industries that are most at risk, should a precipitous decline in confidence occur.
Most industries that reveal clear signs of vulnerability to consumer confidence are driven by discretionary spending.
