West Marine on board to fight leukemia

September 2007 News

"For years West Marine and sailors around the country have been hoisting their sails to help people with blood cancers," Peter Harris, president and CEO of West Marine, said in a statement. "The SailFast Wristband is another way for sailors to increase awareness and raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's blood cancer research and patient education programs."
Each year dozens of Leukemia Cup regattas are held around the country to raise funds to help fight leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. Noted sailor and ESPN announcer Gary Jobson has been chairman of the regatta series since 1994. He recently survived lymphoma.

At West Marine stores, customers can pick up a SailFast Wristband, which is a red, white and blue band with the society's blood drop logo, made from sail cloth for $3.99. All proceeds go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Wristbands will also be available for purchase at one of the upcoming Leukemia Cup regattas, and www.lls.org.
