MerCruiser employee hits the jackpot

December 2009 News

A MerCruiser employee in Stillwater, Okla., had a little bit of good luck this weekend, following a year with little good news.

Mercury Marine announced in August it would consolidate operations in Stillwater, but after negotiations and a second union vote in Fond du Lac, Wis., the company decided to shut down here and move north.

Egner almost didn't win the big money. His winning number, 051919, was actually the second number drawn for the $10,000. But no one stepped forward in the allotted five minutes to claim the first number.

Egner said he plans to use some of his winnings for Christmas, but he'll put the rest in savings. Mercury Marine has said it will leave Stillwater by the end of 2011, he said, but he plans to retire and stay here.
