It's new and combines boating and fishing on the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers, and all area seniors and kids are invited to participate.
Plus, the Hastings, Minnesota Area Rotary Club has bought a pontoon boat for use in the new venture.
A Hastings Let's Go Fishing! chapter is about to be organized, with the Rotary Club involved in getting it started. An informational meeting for all interested will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the second floor event room at Premier Bank, 909 Vermillion St. Lunch will be catered by the Green Mill Restaurant. Price is $3 if reserved by April 1. Tickets at the door are $6 each.
Let's go Fishing! was created to enrich the lives of people age 55 and older through free fishing and boating excursions that strengthen communities, build relationships and create memories.
Fishing and boating is a traditional pastime for Minnesotans. Let's Go Fishing! returns the outdoor experience to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to fish, boat or enjoy time with friends on the water. Since the program began in 2002, more than 15,000 seniors, youth, veterans and adults with disabilities have been served.
Let's Go Fishing! is a network of members, volunteers and chapters who have a passion for the outdoors and who come together as a team to serve seniors and provide fishing and boating to those 55 and older. The excursions are free.
Each excursion has safe boat or pontoon (Hastings will have the pontoon), an experienced fishing guide, equipment, life jackets, live bait, snacks and beverages. The only thing the participant needs to bring is a Minnesota fishing license.
