West Marine to name contest winners in Miami

January 2011 News

West Marine, the country's largest retailer of boating supplies and accessories, will announce the winner of its second annual Green Product of the Year contest and present a selection of innovative new products for 2011 at the Miami International Boat Show.

The 2011 grand-prize winner will receive a $10,000 award.

The announcement is set for 10:05 a.m. Feb. 17 at the West Marine booth in the center pod, lower level.

As part of West Marine's mission to '"preserve and protect the marine environment," the company created the Green Product of the Year contest to encourage the development of green boating products.

"Every fall, West Marine holds an informal internal competition among all of the category managers to find the most interesting and innovative new products," vice president of product information Chuck Hawley said in a statement. "The competition is fierce since thousands of new products are added to West Marine's assortment each year. By showcasing the products we deem to be most exciting, it's our hope to encourage the industry to continue to innovate and excite our customers."
