NMMA statistical report available online

June 2011 News

The National Marine Manufacturers Association announced that its 2010 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract is available online for NMMA members to download at no cost.

A DVD version is also available, and members and non-members can buy it.

The abstract, which has the most current market facts and figures available, quantifies the economic effect of recreational boating and presents detailed charts and graphs about registrations, sales, spending, participation, the retail market, imports/exports and the used boat market, according to the NMMA.

Data are analyzed by market segment, region and state, enabling users to identify regional and segment trends.

The abstract reveals that of the 231.5 million adults living in the United States in 2010, 32.4 percent, or 75 million people, participated in recreational boating. This is the highest proportion of participation in recreational boating since 1999, when 33.4 percent of adults were boating participants.

The NMMA also reports that boaters who took to the water last year helped keep the industry afloat. Aftermarket accessory sales increased 6 percent, to $2.4 billion (from $2.3 billion in 2009), and spending per boat averaged $147 for 2010, also up 6 percent from 2009.

The NMMA says an estimated 17 million boats are in use in the United States.

NMMA members can download the 2010 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract free from the "Statistics" section on www.nmma.org.

NMMA members also can purchase a DVD edition of the abstract for $225. Non-members will not have access to the downloadable version, but can purchase a DVD for $950.

To order the DVD version, contact Melissa Malito at (312) 946-6209 or orderdesk@nmma.org.
