KENNESAW, Ga.-Yamaha Marine Group announced that Phil Dyskow, Immediate Past President and Senior Advisor to Yamaha Marine Group, was inducted into the National Marine Manufacturers Association's (NMMA) Hall of Fame.
The organization recognized Dyskow's career achievements and contributions to the recreational boating industry during the 22nd annual International BoatBuilders' Exhibition & Conference (IBEXr) at the show's annual industry breakfast this morning at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
The NMMAr Hall of Fame was established in 1988 and recognizes individuals who have, or continue to generate, substantial and lasting contributions toward the advancement of the marine industry. It honors individuals whose names and deeds are synonymous with the pursuit of quality, innovation, and perfection within their respective spheres of expertise.
"I can't think of anyone who better fits that description than Phil Dyskow," said Ben Speciale, President of Yamaha Marine Group, in his introduction of Dyskow. "He instills his passion for our industry with everyone."
"Today, if we look around us, the challenges can appear to be almost overwhelming. But, beneath those challenges, lie opportunities for growth and profit beyond our wildest dreams," said Dyskow in his acceptance remarks. "As we walk around this show today, attend seminars, participate in NMMA meetings, and talk with customers and suppliers, let's all look for opportunities."
In 1975, Dyskow became the first Yamaha boat dealer in the United States. Throughout the 1970s, his dealership grew to become the largest Yamaha boat dealer outside of Japan, offering both Yamaha sail and powerboats. He then joined Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S.A. in 1981 as one of the first employees involved in the initial research, planning and introduction of Yamaha outboards into the U.S. market.
Dyskow became Vice President of Yamaha Marine Group in 1995. A year later, he was promoted to Senior Vice President and given responsibility for all Marine Group activities. On Nov. 1, 1997, he was appointed President. During his tenure, Yamaha's share of the market grew dramatically, and the company now supplies more than a third of all the outboards sold in the United States. While under Dyskow's management, Yamaha outboards have received a number of design and innovation awards from the marine industry and the national media. Also while under his direction, Skeeter Boats and G3 Boats saw increases in customer satisfaction and sales volume.
Dyskow retired from the position of President on May 1, 2010. He continues to serve Yamaha as senior advisor to the current Yamaha Marine Group President, Ben Speciale. In addition to the advisory capacity, Dyskow serves on the board of directors for the Center for Coastal Conservation. Last year, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to the Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee, which advises NOAA on fisheries issues. He also serves on the National Boating Safety Advisory Council (NBSAC). Established in 1971, the NBSAC is responsible for advising the U.S. Coast Guard on developing and promulgating standards and regulations pertaining to the construction of recreational boats. He is also Vice Chairman of the NMMAr Engine Committee.
Under Dyskow's leadership, Yamaha has played a huge role in the pontoon industry. Pontooning with a Yamaha is a guaranteed good time.
