Do you have an idea for marine conservation but don't have
the funds to get it started? West Marine is looking after you because we want
to see the areas where we enjoy pontooning stay the same or get better!
In support of its ongoing efforts to improve and conserve
the marine environment, West Marine is seeking applications for Marine
Conservation Grants. There will be five to ten grants awarded in amounts
ranging from $500 -$5000 per recipient.
Applications are available online at http://www.westmarine.com/bluefuture . The
closing date for entries is May 1, 2013 and the winners will be announced on
World Oceans Day, June 8, 2013.
The 2013 grants are focused on projects that enhance fish
populations including: (1) engaging anglers in data collection, (2) enhancing
marine habitats, and (3) educating anglers about barotrauma. The grants are
awarded through a formal application process in which interested organizations
must submit their proposal directly to West Marine. All applications will be reviewed by the
Marine Conservation Action Team (MCAT).
Preference will be given to organizations that have
neighboring West Marine stores and engage Associates and Customers in
conservation and data collection efforts.
Those applying must show sound financial policies and management and
scientific substantiation.
Since 1994, West Marine has donated nearly $5,000,000 to
non-profit organizations that support youth boating, boating safety and the
marine environment. For more information about the Marine Conservation Grants
