Bugs are the worst. When we got our hands on a shirt that was designed to keep bugs away, I thought to myself, “This is it. I can go camping in July again.” But first I needed to see with my own eyes how successful it would be. The shirt that arrived was a man’s shirt, so I grabbed my co-worker Michael Deulley and we set off for the Snake River to give it a go.
Insect Shield is insect-repellent clothing which includes technology that provides effective, invisible and odorless protection against mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges. They make a variety of different clothing options for the family. The shirts are good for 70 washes and I love the convenient label that is sewn into the shirt that allows you to keep track of how many times it’s gone through the washing machine.
The shirt we had was extremely lightweight, yet the longer sleeves made it perfect for an early morning chill. Much to our delight, the gnats that were out in full force avoided him completely. I was not wearing any protective clothing and I was forced to swat the bugs away constantly. Michael enjoyed the comfort and the style of the shirt. I enjoyed the fact that I believe this shirt really does repel bugs. I also took the liberty of going through the entire website and they do make some stylish stuff. The price point ($46) is a little higher than a comparable item without bug repelling capabilities, but based on our test, I would say it’s worth it.
