Everyone loves the sun while out on the ‘toon or deck boat, but you do have to draw a line somewhere when too much sun exposure means sun burns and other skin problems. SureShade, the manufacturer of patented retractable boat shades, has got you covered—literally—and according to Trade Only Today, they’re now joining forces with a baseball Hall of Famer to get boating sun safety awareness spreading.
Former Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in 2013 and went through radiation and chemotherapy treatment for months after. He’s a strong survivor with a new outlook on this side of his cancer—advocating for sun protection and safety is now a big personal priority.
As part of Schmidt’s and SureShade’s collaboration, the baseball star will install a SureShade automated sunshade system onboard his new 2015 Pursuit 365 SC. SureShade’s 2014 Dealer of the Year, Siebert Yacht Management of Jupiter, Fla., will complete the aftermarket integrated installation within the next few weeks. This added relief from direct sun exposure will let him keep boating with the improved protection he’s after.
“Sunscreen, sun wear and SureShade is the sensible way to boat,” he said.

Their collaboration will include co-marketing efforts in the following months to make sure more awareness about safe boating under the sun gets out there.
Having stoked his passion for boating for over 35 years, Schmidt’s love of the lifestyle has also been featured at NMMA’s DiscoverBoating.com. He’s also the founder of Mike Schmidt’s Winner’s Circle Charities, an annual sportfishing tournament that raises funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Marine Industry Education Foundation.
