EPA Approved: Perko guides replacement gas cap choices

November 2015 Product PDB Staff

When the day’s heat caused liquid inside boat fuel tanks to expand, the pressure used to be vented off through fittings before the EPA mandated that fuel systems on new boats must be sealed against hydrocarbon emissions in 2011.

Perko’s EPA-compliant replacement sealed gas caps with built-in vacuum over pressure relief (VOPR) ensure that the EPA’s standard for air quality is fulfilled.

Perko packaging makes selecting the right model of gas cap easy with blue packaging for pre-2011 vented systems and green for post-2011 sealed designs. Boaters uncertain about which cap they need can always consult their boat builder or a marine fuel system professional.

Perko’s wide variety of replacement caps fit any boat style. Different options are available, including black or white polymer, chrome-plated bronze, and stainless steel models with new international color-coded inserts. Matching diesel, waste and water versions are also available.

Replacement gas caps start at around $30 for plastic models and $60 for metal versions.
