It’s not often that so many people can say, “This is MY Lake.” But in Shawnee County, Kan., one of Topeka’s best-kept secrets is Lake Shawnee. A lake that has a seven-mile walking/biking trail around the 450-acre body of water, it has something for everyone to make it “MY LAKE,” especially on the Fourth of July!
Joey Goularte is a prime example of this mindset. He and his family’s involvement in making memories there year after year, especially during the Fourth of July, solidify this thinking. Since getting his Lowe 232 pontoon boat with a 150hp Mercury outboard, his wife Lisa’s stepfather, Carl Glatt, and his father, Patrick Goularte, have both had their last good family trips together on the lake as they watched the fireworks during that particular holiday.
