With the latest developments in marine flooring, I remarked in a column last year that marine carpet was officially dead and the industry was moving on. Located in northern Georgia—the carpet capital of the world—Syntec Industries, Inc., didn’t take too kindly to my premature obituary. But rather than sending me a scathing email message or hiring a hit squad to come after me, the company took a different approach to get my attention.
The company, who celebrated 30 years in the industry in 2016, invited me to tour its different plant divisions to see for myself the innovative products still being offered and I gladly accepted the offer.
My thoughts on marine carpet that originally put me on their radar weren’t particularly harsh or intended to offend anyone, yet I wouldn’t blame them if this proposed trip was just a ploy to lure me to Georgia so they could whack me over the head in person with a giant carpet roll once I stepped off the plane. Turns out their intentions were genuine and I was onboard for a chance to take a closer look at this company which is vital to the marine industry.
