PDB Adventures—Golden Years

July 2017

How’s this for an ideal retirement? Streaming golden sunshine on the lake, surrounded by your grandkids on the pontoon boat as the golden days add up to golden years. If that sounds like an ideal retirement to you, then you’re not alone. For Melvin Hobbs and his wife, Sandy, cruising across Patoka Lake with the sunshine above and grinning grandkids bouncing tubes off the wake of their Harris Solstice pontoon boat are daily realities they wouldn’t trade for anything. And this isn’t just an occasional weekend getaway. This is the ideal retirement made real.

“We got the boat, and I didn’t know if the kids would like it, but they loved it,” says Melvin. “We went every weekend, and they became little crew members. The kids love it, and I swim more than anybody.”

With the grandkids joining him out on Patoka Lake throughout the summer days, the Hobbs family keeps their loved ones close and engaged in a lifestyle that can only be described as golden. So how did this come to be?
