As human beings, we’re always looking for that sense of belonging and connection. Boaters are no exception to this rule. We crave the connection that comes from creating friendships with like-minded pontoon enthusiasts and we love throwing around ideas to make our days out on the water even better.
This is where social media and Facebook groups really shine. They give us the opportunity to meet other people that share our passion for boating and allow us to discuss ideas and learn from the more seasoned pontooners out there.
Kindred Spirits
One great Facebook group for pontooners is Pontoon Junkies!!! Members of this group all enjoy sharing their love for boating and seeing what others are up to on the water.
“In my opinion, pontooners tend to be happy, friendly, easy-going people who want to have a good time at the sand bar and that also translates to the feed,” explained John Lawn, a member of Pontoon Junkies!!! “Unlike some of the other groups, you get positive feedback, good knowledge and general respect from this group. It’s a joy to belong.”
“Pontoon Junkies!!! truly levels the playing field,” agreed Boni Harrington Trombetta, another member of the group. “We are all pontoon boat lovers that want one thing: to be cruising on the water. So whatever powers us (be it a stellar super-powered triple pontoon or a 20-year-old boat with a 25 horsepower motor) we can all relate! This Facebook page brings us together!”
“The knowledge and things that can be learned on these pages is awesome,” added John Sheetz Jr., a fellow member of Pontoon Junkies!!! “Good people helping good people.”
“I enjoy the expertise of the more experienced boaters on everything from prop pitch to fish finders to barbecue grills,” noted Derek Vigil, another member. “A lot of great people here and they're all willing to share their knowledge and experience.”
Pontoon Boat Owners Group is another fantastic Facebook group to join. Similar to Pontoon Junkies!!!, this group enjoys sharing their love for boating with each other.
“There’s an exchange of thoughts and ideas for maintaining our boats, accessories for our boats, and having fun on our boats,” described member David Conyers. “There are lots of great exchanges happening daily, plus great pics of wonderful days and memories.”
“I enjoy the snacks/food ideas,” shared Cathi Black Steele, another member of Pontoon Boat Owners Group. “Storage ideas are awesome. They’ve enjoyed our camping tips. The photos are fun to see what others do. There’s also information on cleaning and what not to do!”
Gather Boating Ideas
Not only will you find other boating enthusiasts on groups like these, but you’ll also have the opportunity to gather some ideas to make your boating experience even better.
“It’s a great community that shares information and experiences to help others and I’ve personally received a lot of great ideas for accessories, products, and DIY projects,” said Will Miles, a member of Pontoon Junkies!!!
Pontoon Boat Owners Group member Tim Smalley finds his group very inspiring: “Both in upgrades and changes to my pontoon as well as safety tips and activities to do while ‘tooning.”
“It’s a good way to learn the many different ways to customize, repair, and jimmy rig your boat,” agreed fellow Pontoon Boat Owners Group member Jacob Arthur. “My favorite thing though is to look at the 400 to 800 horsepower pontoons that people post.”
As a new pontoon boat owner, Pontoon Boat Owners Group member Laura Harrington DC gets great ideas from the group alongside maintenance advice. “I love looking at other boats and their add-ons,” she said.
Learn From Experience
However, one of the most valuable things groups like Pontoon Junkies!!! and Pontoon Boat Owners Group offer is the vast boating knowledge shared by members.
“You can ask a couple questions and get information it took others 20 years to learn in five minutes,” described Larry Musselman, a member of Pontoon Junkies!!!
“We purchased our first pontoon and did not want to look like amateurs,” explained Patti Anne, a member of Pontoon Boat Owners Group. “The pontoon boating groups shared with us the best anchor to purchase. We were set at the sandbars with wavy waters, etc., thanks to the groups’ advice!”
Pontoon Junkies!!! member Kayren Harbour is also a new pontoon owner and she had plenty of questions about her motor and pontooning in general. “There are seasoned ‘tooners in the group that offer a lot of information,” she shared. “It’s a very helpful site and covers everything from figuring out what is wrong with a certain system to what the best sound system is for your money, plus winterizing my ‘toon. It’s my go-to when I have questions!”
“I’ve benefited from the extraordinary breadth of knowledge from my fellow, more experienced pontooners,” agreed Dan Beahan, another member of Pontoon Junkies!!! “It’s a great group of people.”
Pontoon Boat Owners Group member Sandy Phillips added: “I appreciate the honesty of other boaters. Their real-life experiences—both good and bad—are very valuable, and you probably wouldn’t learn them from a boat salesperson.”
“It’s a great place where seasoned pontoon boaters can give advice not only to newer boaters, but also to each other,” shared Scott Chapman, a member of Pontoon Junkies!!! “So not only do I continue to get advice and pick up tips, I also get to share my 30 years of experience and insight.”
Don’t be afraid to hop on social media and join groups such as Pontoon Boat Owners Group and Pontoon Junkies!!! They’re great hubs for boaters to form friendships with other pontooners while also gathering ideas and learning from more seasoned boaters.
