PDB Tested: Dometic Outdoor Cooler

Patrol 75 Cooler

When you’re searching for a premium ice chest, Dometic might not be the first name that comes to mind, but after a recent experience with one of its Patrol Line of coolers, I can easily argue for why it should be.

The variety of outstanding Dometic products found in just its outdoor section alone may surprise you as its reach across multiple industries is truly impressive. You may have seen its powered refrigerated coolers, but did you know Dometic also has an impressive collection of traditional ice chests as well?

The thick PU insulated walls, single-piece rotomolded construction and a full-length hinge pin are just the beginning when talking about the advantages of its Patrol line. I love the smart features such as the leak-proof drain, deep-freeze lid seal and the one-handed rubber latches that help make it ultra-functional.

The Dometic Patrol coolers start with the 20-quart version ($169) and go all the way up to its 108-quart beast ($399). I love the thought of having an 81-can capacity cooler on board my pontoon, but in reality I felt it would be a little too much for my needs so I went with the Patrol 75 ($349), which is a 75-quart cooler with a 58-can capacity.

Weighing in at just over 38 pounds empty, it’s the ideal size for my pontoon plus you really can’t beat the price for all that you get in return.

Whether you make it your first stop or your last, don’t overlook Dometic when searching for your next ice chest. There’s a reason this manufacturer offers so many successful products for boaters specifically and this Patrol Line is just one more example.
