There are many coveted seats on board a pontoon, but arguably the most sought-after one (at least on my boat) is the DJ seat that controls the music. As captain I delegate the responsibility of selecting the perfect tunes to my first-mate so when we're on the water she controls the playlist as well as the vibe. Most boaters would prioritize a good stereo system over even a steering wheel when asked to priority-rank the importance of music on board because nothing puts you in a better mood than a good song.
As a musician whose name is almost synonymous with good times at the lake, country artist Niko Moon's latest single, “These Are the Days” has made our summer playlist. You will at least crack a smile when you hear this song, but most likely you'll start swaying to the beat and get the entire boat rock'n. This hit song was clearly made for boating and since its release it has been a regular play for us when we hit the water and I seriously doubt we're the only ones.
As much as I enjoy listening to this song, I actually love it even more now after learning the video for “These Are the Days” was partially filmed on board a pontoon boat. While the lake house swimming pool appears in the background a lot, the video bounces back and forth to Niko out cruising the lake to reflect what summer is all about. I've always felt pontooning and music were a great fit and it's nice to see the music industry getting on board more and more as our favorite type of vessel continues to gain in popularity.
In the months to come, Niko will be releasing a special series called “Seaside Sessions,” which will include tracks recorded and filmed aboard his Sea-Doo Switch pontoon. He formed a partnership with Sea-Doo and his Switch pontoon will serve as a floating stage for Niko’s summer soundtrack. As one of the most versatile and adaptable boats on the water, the Switch really is the ideal venue for the artist, as he can reconfigure his stage for whatever the moment dictates.
I must admit when I first saw the Switch I was impressed by how quickly seat bases could be moved around, but it never crossed my mind that someone would use the versatility as a stage for a music video one day. You've gotta love the creativity.
Niko continues to be one of summer fun’s biggest ambassadors and his new campaign will focus on once-in-a-lifetime rides with friends and family on board his Sea-Doo. In addition to his blossoming solo career, Niko has written eight number one songs and more than 40 major record label cuts for artists such as Morgan Wallen, Avicii, Dierks Bentley, Pitbull, Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts and more. He also co-produced the Zac Brown Band albums, Jekyll+Hyde and Welcome Home, and was recently named a SESAC country songwriter of the year.
The next time we head out and “These Are the Days” is cranking on our pontoon stereo, I'll be thinking of Niko dancing around on his Switch pontoon and it’s sure to make our summer day that much better.
