PDB Tested: RockGARD

The best way to protect you pontoon out on the road

Published in the September 2024 Issue December 2024 PDB Tested, Feature Brady L. Kay

Wouldn't you do anything to avoid scratching or denting your pontoon boat when out on the water? Of course you would! As overprotective boaters we choose to store large fenders on board, and we station our kids on the corners with strict instructions not to let the boat hit the dock just in case. But what are you doing to protect your pontoon on the way to the water?

If you trailer your pontoon on a regular basis there's a product you should pay attention to. It's called RockGARD and it's not just for pontoon boats as there is a size and style to fit any watercraft you need to protect. RockGARD works as a shield to defend against rocks, gravel and debris while towing to increase the lifespan of your hull.

Trailering your boat to the lake is common for a lot of boaters and this is where RockGARD and its cutting-edge and sustainable product shines. We recently installed it on our BoatMate trailer and were impressed by how easy it is to install. The instructions were simple to follow and the major netting section comes pre-assembled. Just one tip on the installation: when mounting the frame to your trailer, if your trailer has a pivoting stand be sure to adjust the beams so you can still access it.

When we decided to invest in RockGARD, which retails for around $2K, we knew it would protect our pontoon. What we couldn't truly appreciate until after installing it was how solid the design is and just how easy it is to remove when you get to the water. On some trailers you might be able to leave it fully assembled, but with ours we need to remove the netting part so we can access the steps at the front of the trailer. To remove there are a couple of quick-release pins and then just unstrap the edges and you're good to go. It literally takes seconds.

With the cost of pontoons and other types of boats continuing to increase, ensuring they last longer is more important than ever. The RockGARD is manufactured in Canada and is a top-quality product that is ideal for those who put miles on their boat trailer each year and would do anything to protect their boat.
