SANDY, UTAH (ABC 4 News) - The Utah Boat Show and Water Sports

Expo has been around since 1965. Vendors have seen good and bad years in that time span. The 2011 show left many of them encouraged about the economy.

How many people show up to the Utah

Boat Show and Water Expo, is not only an indication of how many Utahns love to get out on the lakes in the summertime. Participants say it's also a sign of how well the economy is doing. Dean Twitchell from S.S. Marine has been in the boat business for 29 years. "People are real particular with their money, but I think it's starting to get a little better economy wise, and they are starting to buy."

Seth Dunkley is one of those ready to spend this year. "Looking to buy looking at boats to see what's new."

Dunkley already has a boat, but says now seems like a good time to upgrade, and boats at the show can do things his boat at home can not. "Seen a lot of new products that's new inventions, towers and camera works to watch the water skiers."

The boat show has more than five hundred vendors looking to sell anything from ski boats to Dutch ovens and fishing tackle. Thousands showed up to get a taste of the summer recreation to come. It's a sign the weather, and the economy might be thawing.

Twitchell says "The sun brings them out, brings them in and there are a lot of people looking and that's a good thing to see."
