Greenwood Lake's annual boat parade

May 2011 News

During the dog days of summer last year, Little Shop of Horrors appeared on Greenwood Lake.

Not the Broadway play, of course, but village resident Nancy Taylor's pontoon boat, decked out for Greenwood Lake's annual boat parade.

Taylor built Audrey II, the people-eating potted plant, using chicken wire, foam and paint, and decorated it with flowers - since Audrey II lived in a flower shop. Her son was in back of the puppet, snapping the mouth at the crowd watching ashore, while Taylor and two other women were backup singers.

That's the kind of fun Taylor and the boat parade committee she chairs is planning for this summer's event.

It'll feature the most unusual watercrafts to grace the seas - while flexing the creative muscles and providing entertainment for all.

Boats - decorations for which last year included as a pirate ship and with an Elvis theme - will line up at Long Pond Marina and travel east across the lake and down the east arm, and back up again.

The best vantage point for boat gazing will be at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park at the south end of Windermere Avenue, where the parade will end and prizes will be awarded, and any of the restaurants or marinas on the lake.

A Brazilian band, the Christine Spero Group, will cap the event and allow the parade-goers to dance and celebrate the night away.\
