Tohatsu Expands Into Canada

October 2006 News

Tohatsu America Corp., distributor of Tohatsu outboards, will introduce the brand in Canada for the 2007 model year.

The Tohatsu outboard line will make its debut at the Toronto Boat Show in January and the Vancouver Boat Show in February.

Tohatsu offers outboards from 115 hp to 40 hp using its TLDI, a 2-stroke direct-injection system. The company also offers outboards from 30 hp to 2 hp featuring a 4-stroke system.

The company distributes outboard motors to Canada under the Nissan Marine brand name.

"With our strong Nissan Marine dealer base already in place, we will be able to immediately serve our Tohatsu customers' needs," Kurt Gardner, national sales manager, said in a statement.

The expansion into Canada follows the opening of a new manufacturing plant in Japan, with the capability of producing 200,000 outboards a year, and the expanded corporate headquarters and distribution center in Farmers Branch, Texas.
