PDB Tested: Cleanwaste

May 2012 News Brady L. Kay

When reviewing pop-up enclosures while doing our boat tests, I tend to see changing rooms as more for kids than adults. Sure these areas are great for changing clothes, but as a typical day-use-only type of a boater, I'm not sure I'd ever use a portable toilet onboard my boat. But my kids, yeah that's a different story.

As my children get older, camping-along with boating-is become more enticing, which left me last summer scrambling to find a portable toilet that wouldn't take up a lot of room, yet would work when nature called. I must say the Cleanwaste GO anywhere portable toilet is exactly what I was looking for.

This innovative, environmentally-friendly toilet has full-size features, yet folds to an easy-to-carry briefcase size that can easily store below any seat. Its stable tripod design holds a standard-size seat at the right height and supports up to an impressive 500 pounds! The folding legs lock in both open and closed positions and the hygienic design ensures no contact with waste. Plus it only weighs seven pounds, which is almost hard to believe based on its effectiveness.

Three single-use GO anywhere toilet kits (aka WAG BAG waste kits) are included, but you'll want to have a good supply on hand if you plan to use this portable toilet often versus just for emergency situations only. (Refills sold separately.)

Every degradable toilet kit comes with a waste bag, transport zip bag, toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The Poo Powder quickly turns waste into a stable gel for easy transport and safe disposal. The odor neutralizers, not perfumes, eliminate unpleasant odors and these waste bags are landfill-approved and can be disposed of in trash containers with regular garbage.

There have been trips where I gladly would have paid anything for a portable toilet, so I can't complain about the $116.95 price. I like that there is no mixing or storage tanks involved, but with the single-use waste kits this might be a better option for emergencies while onboard, rather than a portable toilet that is used often.
