Pennsylvania Marina is Growing

June 2007 News

Lake Raystown Resort, one of the largest marinas in Pennsylvania, is in the midst of a multiyear expansion to accommodate larger boats.

Oklahoma-based Atlantic-Meeco was chosen to replace and upgrade hundreds of slips at the 22-year-old marina located in a secluded valley.

Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lake Raystown is a 28-mile-long, 8,300-acre manmade lake with 118 miles of shoreline. The marina, which attracts pleasure boaters and anglers from Pittsburgh, Johnstown and Harrisburg, is at its 650-slip capacity.

"Many of the boats were already oversized for their slips, and we saw a trend toward larger boats with wider beams," said Paul Bonfiglio, who manages the marina for R.R.P. Recreation LP, in a statement. There is no shoreline development, he added, "which increases the need for houseboats and cabin cruisers."

This led marina management to begin a seven-year project to replace the majority of its slips on 11 docks which utilize winch and cable anchorage.

A new conference center is scheduled to open at the marina early this summer. It features a 4,100-square-foot ballroom with a large terrace for gatherings of up to 300 people
