It was reported at the dealer forum that Brunswick Corp. and Sea Ray already agreed to introduce their boats to the dealers in September. Dealers say they hope all the manufacturers will follow.
In other developments, some dealers raised the question of whether boat manufacturers should eliminate the model year on boats, a controversial move that some engine makers have already taken. Phil Dyskow, president of Yamaha Marine, said Tuesday that nearly 80 percent of his company's outboard motors have been sold without a model year.
Some marine lenders and dealers, however, worry the model year elimination would cause confusion and lead to problems when trying to appraise and sell boats.
