Glastron production moving to Michigan

February 2010 News

Glastron is moving production from Minnesota to Cadillac, Mich., according to company officials.

"We're still finalizing plans, but as of right now, we should be able to move the production line to Cadillac for the 2011 model year," David Huls, president and CFO of Glastron owner Project Boat Holdings, told The Cadillac News.

Company officials could not be reached for comment this morning by Soundings Trade Only.

Project Boat Holdings has a contract with Glastron's production facility in Little Falls, Minn., to continue to provide services until the move, Huls said.

Additional jobs are expected to be created as a result of the move, as well as higher production levels, but he did not specify an exact number. The company has spoken to employees of the Little Falls facility about possible relocation to Cadillac.

Mike O'Connell, who was named Glastron president earlier this month, is expected to make the move to Cadillac, Huls said.

Glastron production will take place at a yet-to-be determined Four Winns/Wellcraft facility, Huls said. No new facilities will be constructed or Four Winns facilities expanded as a result of the move, he said.

Platinum Equity, of Beverly Hills, Calif., purchased Glastron, Four Winns, Wellcraft, Ranger and other boat companies from now-defunct Genmar Holdings for $70 million in a bankruptcy auction in January.
