King Of The Hill

Published in the November 2017 Issue October 2017 Brady L. Kay

When all the poker hands were in and accounted for, Julie Young from nearby Kansas City, Mo., was left speechless as she held tightly in her grip the winning cards. Her heart raced after randomly drawing four Kings at the [PDB] DAYS Poker Run on the Lake of the Ozarks in September because she knew she was going home with the top prize. So what exactly will an unbelievable poker hand like that get you these days? Keys to a brand new pontoon, that’s what!

To make it a little more interesting, specially marked wild cards were inserted into the decks and using a raffle-style drum, participants were given a chance to draw five cards individually with the best poker hand taking top honors. Julie’s hand included three Kings, but she also nabbed a wild card which made her four Kings nearly impossible to beat. The closest was runner-up was Tonya Schumacher who drew four Queens, no wilds, which goes to show you the kind of hands that were being drawn.
