Man rescued from Yakima River

August 2010 News

CLE ELUM, Wash. -- A Cle Elum man was rescued from the Yakima River Tuesday morning after he lost control of his pontoon boat.

Kittitas County Sheriff's deputies say Roger Duguette, 72, lost control of his boat when it hit a log jam around 8:30 p.m. Monday, in the Fish and Wildlife Access area above State Route 970 and Highway 10.

Deputies say Duguette launched at South Cle Elum earlier that evening with plans to fish his way south. He had arranged for his wife to pick him up at dusk. His wife contacted the Sheriff's office and reported him overdue.

The Swift Water Rescue team found Duquette about a quarter of a mile up-river from the boat launch, around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Rescuers say he was wet and cold, but was not injured.
