Seattle Boat Show returns to Shilshole Bay

August 2009 News

The Seattle Boat Show at Shilshole Bay Marina was relaunched last week by the Northwest Marine Trade Association after a four-year hiatus.

The event, which ran Aug. 6-9, drew an estimated 7,000 people, according to an article on the Three Sheets Northwest Web site.

"We haven't had a boat show like this in a long time," said Bob Pound, manager of Sundance Yacht Sales & Moorage's Lake Union location. "We weren't sure about it on Wednesday, but now we are smiling."

During the course of the four-day sales event, Sundance landed about 20 deals, mostly for powerboats in the 33-foot to 62-foot range, Pound said.

The Shilshole boat show featured about 180 new and used boats, ranging from 14 to 74 feet, organizers said.

The annual floating boat show was displaced during Shilshole Bay Marina's lengthy renovation. In the interim, the NMTA merged its August show with the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association's Boats Afloat show, held on Lake Union each September.

In response to demand from NMTA members, the association decided to return the August show to Shilshole.
