PDB TESTED No. 130: Buck 731 X-Tract LED

Published in the February 2013 Issue February 2013 PDB Tested Brady L. Kay

I didn’t bring a lot of optimism into this test because previous experiences led me to believe that all multi-tools were okay at a lot of features, but not great overall at anything. Turns out I need to stay away from multi-tools that you get free when you buy oil at an auto parts store. You really do get what you pay for these days.

I went in search for a quality multi-tool from a company that is willing to stand behind its products and that’s when I found the Buck 731 X-Tract LED. Buck has been standing behind its knives and products for decades and you can bet that a Buck tool is built to last.

I found the 731 X-Tract multi-tool to have everything I needed, including a full-size 3-inch drop-point blade with grip ridges, spring-loaded needle nose pliers with wire cutter and both a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver with a can open to complete the package. The screwdrivers work great because they’re not part of a cheesy foldout design, but rather you slide it so you can truly use it. A strategically-placed LED light with an easy-to-replace battery proves that Buck knows what’s important and works hard at delivering on your needs. It’s a job well done and at $69.99 it’s worth every penny.
