PDB Tested: Tarp Tool

March 2013 PDB Tested Brady L. Kay

To be honest I had my doubts about the TARP TOOL when I first heard about it. I've never really had too many problems snapping down my cover, but I still wanted to give this product a fair look. Maybe it's because the idea is so simple, but for whatever reason I wasn't sure if the patent pending product was truly necessary.

It's quite small so I was able to take it with me on a recent work trip. I tried it out on a "seasoned" pontoon that had an older cover that appeared to have shrunk a little over the years. The TARP TOOL did make it a lot easier for me and getting that older cover back on was a snap, for lack of a better word.

It was nice not to put any stress on my fingers as I was able to snap the cover down as quickly as I could get to each snap. The working end is made of carbon-fiber composite materials and the handle is hardwood with a satin finish. I could tell that it was invented by a boater because if you accidentally drop it overboard, the TARP TOOL floats.

Marina owners interested in selling the TARP TOOL can contact the manufacturer about getting a counter display as well as private labeling with a logo or imprint on the tool itself. The TARP TOOL retails for $12.95, which isn't too bad. If your hands get sore snapping on your cover you'd probably pay double for something like this. It's also nice for those older covers where the snaps don't always seem to line up just right.
