There is a ton of good info on the forum, mainly because the regulars do such a great job of helping out with every question asked. Recently a new thread was started on the homepage called Tips and Tricks for your Pontoon/Boating. One of our moderators, rickdb1, kicked it off with a list of upgrades he’s done on his boat.
[rickdb1] Here’s the list of things I’ve done to my pontoon.
Underskin (one of the best things I did), Sharkhide on the logs before it ever hit the water (second best thing I did), installed two reclining seats, installed Blue Micro LEDs inside all the seat bases and the helm, replaced running lights and interior courtesy lighting with Blue LEDs, put in a SmartCraft gauge that monitors many of the engine functions, installed water pressure gauge, power bimini top and a new Sony stereo.
I also made a slide-out tray with a container inside the helm door, installed a fishing rod holder behind the helm seat, added an in-line fuel/water separating filter, Humminbird and a color GPS/Fishfinder. Was it all necessary? Not really. Does it make it more comfortable and safer? No doubt.
This quickly opened up a train of questions including one from LSU Engineer.
[LSU Engineer]: WOW, that’s a lot of mods! Did you install the SmartCraft gauge yourself? If so, how difficult was it?
[funtooner] wanted to know:
You say the first thing you did was underskin your pontoon. Was that for surging or to get more speed? What material did you use?
