If you're constantly tying up to the same dock it's probably not a big deal, but when you tend to visit places with varying dock heights it can be a chore to put out the bumpers. Not to mention that when you ask someone to throw out a fender as you're pulling into a slip, only to have it come up a foot short can be as awkward as it is useless (the fender, not the person).
I noticed the Fendergrip at the Miami Boat Show and it kind of looked too simple to really be productive. But Peter Cook from New Wave Marine did such a great job with his demo that I decided to pick up a set to test myself.
I love that there is zero knot-tying involved, as any small child can use this product. After threading your rope (3/8-inch to 1/2-inch) through the marked end just pull and you're good to go. And you really can easily adjust the height with a simple press of a button, but because it locks, your rope isn't able to go the other direction.
I like to remove my fenders when not in use and so I like that you can store them with the Fendergrip still attached so it's ready for next time.
Priced at $19.95 each, you can buy the Fendergrip just about anywhere including the main website. It's too small, too effective and works too well not to have at least one set on your boat.
