CORRECTION: Continuing The E-Tec Legend

March 2015

CORRECTION: In the March issue of P&DB, the feature, “Continuing The E-Tec Legend: A decade in continue performance”, specifically the information under the “High-Output” and “The Pontoon Series” headings is incorrect.

They should read:

High-Output

Evinrude E-TEC G2 Engines are available in 200 H.O. , 225 HP, 225 H.O., 250 HP, 250 H.O., and 300 HP. In Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines, the real difference between regular models and H.O. models is the horsepower. H.O. or “High-Output” models push the high end of the 10% variance all manufacturers are allowed to have from the HP decal. So for the 200 H.O. for example, is closer to 220 HP. In the rest of the Evinrude E-TEC Line-up, BRP often increases the size of the engine for the H.O. models. For example, and Evinrude E-TEC 90 HP is an in-line 3 cylinder, where the Evinrude E-TEC 90 H.O. is a V-4.

Common to all Evinrude E-TEC and Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines is  multipoint oiling systems that optimize the oil needed and used in the crankcase and cylinder block. Evinrude engines are manufactured with specialized aluminum pistons that are 2.5 times stronger at peak operating temperatures than other conventional alloys, which increases durability and engine life. Additionally, the pistons feature a highly advanced honing process based on the Nagel Hone, which improves cylinder wall geometry, improving lubrication and lowering piston temperature and extends the engine’s life. Low RFI ignition wires are specifically designed not to interfere with onboard electronics. One of the most important aspects of the engine, which should never be overlooked, is that the Evinrude E-TEC and the Evinrude E-TEC G2 Engines are emissions compliant. The California Air Resource Board has awarded each of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines with a three star rating, in what is considered to be the most stringent emissions standards in the industry.

The Pontoon Series

To compliment their full line-up, BRP also offers a series of engines specifically designed for pontoon boats. Evinrude E-TEC Pontoon Series engines, areavailable in 65, 90, 115, and 150 HP. Unique features of the Evinrude E-TEC Pontoon Series engines are softer rubber motor mounts to reduce vibration, external oil tanks for easier access in a pontoon boat, unique software mapping and different gear ratios to create higher thrust for a pontoon application.

We apologize for this misinformation.
