Three Things
A performance-driven nature, inviting comfort and layout, and tons of high-end amenities all help highlight this beautiful pontoon.
Breakdown
Sometimes it’s good to stretch out a little, especially when it comes to this new 27-foot model that is a couple feet longer than the 2585 version Hampton released last year. The extra 2 feet are really appreciated in the bow with longer bench seats, which opens up the layout considerably.
While the two chaise lounges in the bow are perfect for stretching out and getting comfortable, the two rear-facing loungers in the stern steal the show. For starters, the contour and styling is amazing, but each is also extremely comfy too. Extra-mile effort went into the artistic design that creates a sculpted sporty look and feel, especially on the sides. Plus, we love all the stainless accents in this area including the grab rails, stern gate and four-step boarding ladder.
Another great seating option on this ‘toon rated for up to 15 passengers is the first-mate seat that is directly across from an identical helm chair. At the helm console the two-tier row of easy-to-read gauges flows well with the Infinity stereo unit that is centrally located for the driver. The SmartCraft Mercury multi-function gauges come standard with the Verado four-stroke engine and provide a lot of great data. Everything is within reach for the driver, including a well-placed throttle position located to the side of the console.
Also within easy reach is the MP3/auxiliary port and 12-volt outlet that are protected from the elements in a designated area on the side of the helm stand that is accessible by opening the side door. Finally: a secure place for your device so you don’t have to worry about it when it’s plugged in.
Other key features include the Seagrass flooring from Infinity that is part of the optional features (and in our opinion is worth the upgrade because it completes the high-end look), an automatic Bimini top that raises and lowers with a press of a button, and the vinyl padding on the inside of the rails that helps dampen the noise while providing a cleaner interior.
Inspection
A 28- by 24-inch U-shaped center pontoon is combined with two round-shaped, 25-inch diameter pontoons for a unique performance hull. The cross members are on 16-inch centers for increased durability and another feature we love is the one-piece plywood design with no seams, which also increases the strength.
Up top there are three gate openings and between the bow and stern gates there is nearly 22 feet of deck space. As far as overall craftsmanship and fit and finish work, this Hampton earns top marks for the quality design.
Handling
Hydro Step Performance (HSP) provides two steps in the ‘toons for increased speed and when combined with the “wedge-shaped” stern deck (that sets the Mercury 300 Pro four-stroke back a little further) you have a great combination of power and handling. Manufactured by the same company that builds PlayCraft pontoons, this Hampton lives up to the company’s go-fast reputation. She turns well, is very responsive and is, of course, a lot of fun to drive.
Final Thoughts
You want luxury? This Hampton has it. You want performance? Yep, you guessed it. From bow to stern, the 2785 HSP clearly exceeds all expectations for a high-end performance model. She’s well-built and the only thing that could take your attention away from the attractive interior is how responsive and sporty this ‘toon really is.

Why we love this boat…This is where high-end luxury and performance meet. As tested, this pontoon is loaded with a great mix of options and standard features.
Just being picky…Considering its bass boat building roots, the “wedge” stern deck is probably this shape for a reason, but we wouldn’t mind seeing a bigger swim platform.
