PDB TESTED: Vinyl Cote

January 2014 PDB Tested Roy Sparks

Life has a way of balancing itself out. For every new-looking pontoon in a slip at your local marina you're sure to find at least one `toon with stained or faded upholstery that has seen better days. If you happen to be one of those not-so-proud owners of a well-used boat, we stumbled upon a product that might interest you. Before looking into a total replacement makeover, checkout Simply Spray's Hammerhead line. It's the only non-toxic aerosol paint that is specially formulated to change the color or bring the vibrancy back, without changing the texture. Sound too good to be true? That's what we thought so that's why we wanted to test it.

The Marine Vinyl Cote is made in America and will not rub off on clothes. But for us the biggest selling point is that it stays soft to the touch, which is a drastic difference from traditional spray paints that can harden and stiffen your seats. And because it's completely eco-friendly and virtually odorless, we like that it's equally as nice on our environment.

The specially formulated Marine Vinyl Cote dries quickly and is resistant to fading. It does require a clear primer to be applied first, but once the primer is dry, the Vinyl Cote color application can be used to create stencil designs, completely change the color or revitalize the look of faded and worn seats and benches.

Marine Vinyl Cote is available in Camel, Black and Charcoal and the suggested retail price is $36.95/can (which is a lot cheaper than buying all-new seats). Checkout this product as well as others that Simply Spray offers and help balance the look of good-looking boats at your marina.
