Mercury cutting jobs in Wisconsin

September 2008 News
Mercury attributed the layoffs, announced last week, to ongoing economic challenges, higher fuel prices, falling home values and the rising cost of living.
Mercury employs approximately 2,500 salaried and hourly workers in Fond du Lac, according to the company. In July, it cut 62 jobs and temporarily shut down the Fond du Lac production plant for three weeks. In April, Mercury cut 50 salaried positions from its plants in Fond du Lac; Tulsa and Stillwater, Okla.; and St. Cloud, Fla.
Mercury Marine is a division of Brunswick Corp., which this spring announced it was laying off 1,000 people immediately and an additional 1,700 during the following 18 months.
Mercury's brand portfolio includes Mercury and Mariner outboards; MerCruiser sterndrives and inboards; MotorGuide trolling motors; Mercury and Teignbridge propellers; MotoTron electronic controls; Mercury inflatables; Mercury SmartCraft electronics; and Mercury and Quicksilver parts and oils.
